After graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, USA, H. E. Mr. Al Otaiba worked at the Petroleum Development Department of Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) for two years. In 1996, H. E. Mr. Al Otaiba joined the UAE Offsets Group (UOG) to focus on privatization, transportation, environmental and petrochemicals projects. He became Senior Advisor of Mubadala Development Company and Vice President of Marketing of Dolphin Energy Limited (DEL), a subsidiary of UAE Offsets Group (UOG), responsible for implementing the Dolphin gas project.
In December 2006, he was appointed the Chairman of the Department of Transport and Member of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

Capt. Mohamed Al-Shamisi
Vice President - Ports Operations for the Abu Dhabi Ports Company

Capt. Mohamed Al-Shamisi is Vice President - Ports Operations for the Abu Dhabi Ports Company, with over 13 years experience in the Shipping & Ports Industries.  In addition to oversight of port operations and setting of performance standards, Capt. Al-Shamisi’s work at ADPC includes close involvement with the design, development and operation of Khalifa Port & other port facilities in Abu Dhabi.  He also has a key role in the implementation of the Abu-Dhabi Maritime Strategy, together with ports related elements of the Abu-Dhabi 2030 plan and Western Region 2030 Plan. 

Capt. Al-Shamisi is a Board member of Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) and an interim Board member of Emirates Ports Company (EPC) since January 2009.  ADT is the company which operates Mina Zayed while EPC will manage container & breakbulk terminals at Khalifa Port.

Prior to his assignment at ADPC, Capt. Al-Shamisi was employed at Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM), where he was in charge of the organization’s building program for 11 Double Hull Chemical Tankers and took an active role in developing & implementing corporate strategic plans.

Capt. Al-Shamisi graduated in Applied Science & Navigational Studies from the Australian Maritime College and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tasmania - Australia.  In 2008 he was awarded the H.H. Sheik Rashid Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement.

Dr. Roland Zibell

Since 2003: Director ADI Consulting, Pfäffikon/Switzerland, Dubai/UAE, Amsterdam/ Netherlands.

Dr Zibal is currently responsible for design, business development and implementation of multi-modal integrated logistics platform including infrastructure design, facility design, development and implementation of policies, business processes, customer communication and development; e.g. Dubai Logistics City, UAE. He is a internationally recognised consultant to leading logistics service providers in the segment of strategy development, business development and business processes.

Prior to his current role in Dubai Dr Zibel worked with DHL-Danzas/Deutsche Post World Net, Basel/Switzerland as Senior Vice President Global Customers and Senior Vice President e-Business, Kuehne+Nagel as Vice President Logistics and Zentrum für Logistik und Unternehmensplanung ZLU. He is also a Member of the Board at Technical University of Berlin, Institute of Logistics.

Thomas W. Speh

Thomas W. Speh is Senior Director of MBA Programs at Miami University. He also holds a part-time position with CSCMP, as Director of Strategic Initiatives. He had taught at Miami for 35 years prior to assuming his current role. He was the Director of the Warehouse Research Center at Miami University from 1986 –2000and during that time, the Center conducted over 14 major studies.

Dr. Speh has published numerous articles in a variety of academic and professional journals, including the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Supply Chain Management Review, Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Business Logistics. Dr. Speh is a frequent speaker at logistics and supply chain conferences in the U.S. and has spoken at conference and management development seminars in over 20 different countries.

Dr. Speh is a past President of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and a past president of the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC). In October of 2007, Dr. Speh received the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional’s Distinguished Service Award, and in May, 2008 he received the Warehousing Education and Research Council’s Lifetime Achievement award, only the 6th such award given by WERC in its 31 year history.

Frédéric Hendrick

Graduated in Electrotechnical Engineering from SUPELEC in 1988. From 1988 to 2000 held various positions in Supply Chain and Manufacturing for Peugeot in UK and France. Worked then as Manufacturing and Supply Chain VP in a Packaging Business Unit of Pechiney/Alcan from 2000 to 2005. Joined Alstom Transport in 2005 as Manufacturing VP for Rolling Stock, and became Urban Transit Group VP in January 2007. Since March 2009, Marketing VP of Alstom Transport.

Erich Staake was born in Hildesheim in 1953. He is Diplomkaufmann (MBA) and worked, among others, with Preussag AG, Hannover, Bertelsmann AG, Gütersloh, Philipp Holzmann AG, Frankfurt and Wella AG, Darmstadt as Manager/ Director.

Today he is CEO of Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport) and serves as Spokesman of the Executive Board. In addition, he is Chairman of the Board of Management of several subsidiaries as well as Belgian honorary consul.

Prof. Dr.-Eng. Frank Straube is one of the leading international experts in the field of logistics. Since October 2004 Frank Straube has been the professor responsible for the chair of logistics at Berlin University of Technology and director of the Institute of Technology and Management.

In 2008 he contributed significantly to the formation of the chair of International Logistics Networks and Services at Tongji University, Shanghai, endowed by the Kühne-Foundation at the Chinesisch-Deutsches Hochschulkolleg at Tongji University in Shanghai, and is a permanent visiting professor since then. Starting in 2009 he is in charge of the Cooperation between the Abu Dhabi University and the Berlin University of Technology.

He is cooperating partner for German Railways /Schenker International and Kuehne Foundation and established two innovation centers for global logistics and innovation in logistics services and transport and initiated the foundation and the financial support of both institutions for two new logistics chairs at Berlin University in 2009- He is a member of the German Logistics Association (BVL) and was vice chairman from 1997 until 2009. He is also a member of the board of the European Logistics Association (ELA) in Brussels, as well as a member in supervisory and advisory boards of renowned corporations. Furthermore Prof. Straube is the founder of the International Transfer Center for Logistics (ITCL), which is implementing innovative planning and professional development operations for companies.

He is member of the advisory board of prestigious companies (Bremer Logistics Group, German Railways etc) and logistics associations (European Logistics Association ELA and German Logistics Association, BVL) and Member of presidium of the German-Russian scientific community Logistics (DR-LOG), member of the program committee for the annual logistics event of Russian railwas (RZD) in Sotchi. He publishes in various fields of interest in logistics and is member of the editorial board of the journal for logistics research, Germany and the Journal of Logistics and Sustainable Transport (JLST), Hongkong and editor of the Zeitschrift für Internationales Verkehrswesen (Journal for International Traffic Management). Prof Straube is the lead content advisor and Conference Chair of the Global Logistics Forum in Abu Dhabi.

Cesar Roberto Lavalle da Silva

Cesar Lavalle is Director of International Relations of the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain (ILOS), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, responsible for development of alliances with international institutions such as  Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), AMR Research Institute, Michigan State University, University of Nevada and University of Arkansas – United States; German Logistics Association (BVL) and Technical University of Berlin - Germany; STC-Group and Breda University of Applied Science – Holland. Cesar is also in charge for organizing international conferences and technical missions to a diversity of countries. He is co-author of two books and author of several articles in journals and magazines in Brazil and abroad. He is member of the editorial board of Tecnologistica Magazine in Brazil and has B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering at Reading University, UK and M.Sc in Business Administration at The COPPEAD Business School, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has worked in Abu Dhabi as senior field engineer at Schlumberger Worldwide from 1979 until 1982.

Richard Bowker CBE

Richard Bowker CBE was appointed CEO of Union Railway in July 2009 and took up his post in September 2009. He has a 20 year career in the railway industry having worked in both the public and private sectors. In his early career at London Underground and later on at Virgin Rail Group, he became a recognized expert in the innovative financing and procurement of rolling stock working on new trains for the Northern Line of London Underground and the new trains for both the West Coast Main Line and Cross Country. From September 2000 to December 2001 he was Group Commercial Director for the Virgin Group of Companies with specific responsibility for transport. He was a Non Executive Director of Virgin Atlantic Airways and Co-Chairman of Virgin Rail Group.

In December 2001 he was appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport to be Chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority, a post he held for 3 years. He is credited with leading the industry through a particularly turbulent period and putting a number of major projects back on track including the £8 billion upgrade of the West Coast Main Line and the £3 billion replacement of all the commuter trains on the networks south of London. Between September 2006 and July 2009 he was Group Chief Executive of National Express Group Plc, one of the world’s leading international transport businesses.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and a Fellow of the Institute of Logistics and Transport. He was a Board member of British Waterways from 2004 – 2009 including Deputy Chairman from 2008. He was awarded the CBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2005 for services to the railway industry.
