The highly successful first Emiratisation Forum was held in Abu Dhabi in April of 2009. A high quality speaking panel followed important opening remarks from His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research including Prof. Lynda Gratton of the London Business School, an international expert on HR Strategy and high performing teams and one of the Times of London “Top 50 International Thinkers”. Further presentations from Abu Dhabi Emiratisation Council, Etihad Airways, Aldar, Sorouh and Abu Dhabi University Knowledge Group added to a successful launch of this event with more than 200 delegates from many leading organisations in Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE attending.

A-Z of Obesity Treatment 2009

The first two events within Aim Medical Series were done successfully with the great contribution of number of experienced speakers from respectful Government and private hospitals in UAE. Two versions were done of this event in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and both were accredited by Health Authority in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for Continued Medical Education hours. It had around 100 attendees for each of the two events from different specialties of medical practitioners.

Megatrends was an event focused on strategic insights and the economy. Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the event was honoured to feature His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of TDIC who’s opening remarks preceded a special appearance by Professor Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize winner for Economic in 2009 and a leading international expert in global trade. Also on the programme were presentations delivered by His Excellency Mohammed Abdul Aziz Al Shehi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and presentations by Aldar, Noor Islamic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Gulf Finance, Bank of New York Mellon, Jones Lang Lasalle, NBAD and Morgan Stanley. The event also featured author and international expert in Future Technological Trends, Ross Dawson and was moderated by Reg Atwall. Attended by 300 business and educational leaders from around the UAE, this event raised the profile of Abu Dhabi University significantly.

The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum

The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum is part of the Aim Leadership Series and is part of collaboration between Abu Dhabi University and Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development. The first Innovation Forum featured leading international experts in Innovation with the theme Building an Innovative Culture. The opening remarks were made by His Excellency Abdullah Al Ahbabi, Director of Strategy & Planning General Secretariat of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and the opening session was attended by His Excellency Sultan Saeed al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy. Special presentation from experts including Hal Gregerson of INSEAD and Thomas Andersson, Chairman of the board for the International Organisation for Knowledge Economy and Enterprise Development (IKED) were accompanied by presentations from Microsoft, Philips, Proctor & Gamble, Cambridge University, National University of Singapore and Al Hilal Bank the Headline Sponsor of the event. This event was attended by more than 150 business and organisational leaders and was a successful launch for both ADU and Khalifa Fund as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organisations in November 2009 to run a series of events and workshops together.

The Global Logistics Forum

The Global Logistics Forum was organised in a new collaboration between Abu Dhabi University and TU Berlin’s Chair of Logistics and was the first ever global gathering to focus on international trends in logistics to be held in Abu Dhabi. With the kind sponsorship of Abu Dhabi Ports Company, and expert panel of international speakers delivered a high quality programme of informative presentations and workshops to more than 200 logistics experts from around the region. Opening remarks were made by His Excellency Abdullah Rashed Al Otaiba, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport and Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and were followed by the special appearance of His Excellency Dr Gerhard Schroeder, Former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany who hailed the cooperation between Germany and the UAE through collaborations like the one between ADU and TU Berlin as a significant and positive step forward in building lasting and mutually beneficial ties between the two countries. Further presentations from TU Berlin, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, Union Railway, Alstom, Schenker, Dornier, Duisburger, IPIC Ferostall were well received by the audience as was the panel of international experts from leading international schools of Logistics including Tongji Shanghi University, Singapore University, University of Miami and ILOS Brazil. This event also featured the launch of the Centre of Excellence for Supply Chain & Logistics at Abu Dhabi University a further collaboration between TU Berlin and ADU. The 2010 event look to build on the strong foundations that this event established.

The second event in the partnership between Abu Dhabi University and Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development the Abu Dhabi Forum on Entrepreneurship was held in April of 2010. With the theme ‘Transforming Today’s Ideas into Tomorrow’s Success’ this event featured opening remarks from His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary, Dept. of Economic Development and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Khalil Al-Mutawa, Chief Executive Officer, Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and was presented to more than 200 business leaders students and young entrepreneurs. Featured presentations included Mr Tim Atterton an international facilitator for entrepreneurship who’s presentation was exciting and stimulating. Hosted by the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE and organised by the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), This Biennial conference was held in UAE and the Middle East for the first time, and the focus was on ‘New Approaches to Quality Assurance in the Changing World of Higher Education’. The program included several conferences, workshops, meetings and social functions and had around 350 participants from Africa, USA, Europe and other countries.

The meeting titled ‘Integrating Addiction Treatment in Mainstream Health Care: Outline to Primary Providers’. It was accredited by Health Authority-Abu Dhabi for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and had respective representatives from medical sector.
One Year Course for Clinical Psychologists Jan 2010 – Jan 2011
Aim signed one year agreement with National Rehabilitation Center to produce 12 courses in one year. These courses were also accredited for CME hours by HAAD. The Psychological Skills and Competencies 1 Year Training is separated into twelve, two day workshops, and delivered over one year by an international faculty from the UK’s leading psychiatric institution: the Maudsley International, Kings College London and the National Health Service.
The First Abu Dhabi Corporate Governance Conference 2009

This event had big focus from government entities and media as it was the first leading conference hosted by Abu Dhabi Center for Corporate Governance, one of the subsidiary companies of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Attended by large number of VIPs and sponsored by the General Secretariat of Executive Council, Securities and Commodities Authority, Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and Al Jaber. It presented the unique five sector workshops in Tourism, Energy, Manufacturing, Finance and Innovation to be sponsored by Etihad Airways, ADNOC, ESI, NBAD and Mubadala. Also it was supported by Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Western Region Development Council, Eastern Region Development Committee, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Statistics Center-Abu Dhabi. In this two day conference, Aim added its expertise in Emiratisation Series to produce a successful event.

The second successful Careers Fair had the great participation of 51 exhibiting government and private companies, with the special sponsors: First Gulf Bank, ADNEC, Etihad Airways and ADWEA. The fair had large number of students, under graduates and post graduates. During the fair, ADU conducted series of workshops and presentations.
